Tyler, the Creator wasn’t at the 2022 Grammys, so he couldn’t accept his award for Best Rap Album in person. But he did what any other Millennial would do and took to Instagram to give his thanks over a livestream.
The rapper received the accolade for his sixth studio album Call Me If You Get Lost. The Grammy Awards didn’t air the Best Rap Album category during the main telecast, and Tyler is currently on tour (hence why he couldn’t be at the ceremony), but that didn’t stop him from taking matters in his own hands and hopping on Instagram Live to give an impromptu acceptance speech that, thankfully, didn’t have to adhere to CBS censors.
Tyler beat out Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, and Nas for the honor of Best Rap Album.
Tyler embodied the ethos of Call Me If You Get Lost by going live in front of a grassy field with bikes laying in the background. “First off, I’m hyped,” began Tyler. “Thank you to DJ Drama you are so important to rap music. Thank you to my friends for being my cheerleaders. Thank you to my whole team, the whole squad.”

The Live briefly cut out several times, but at least he had the freedom to cuss and didn’t have to worry about being played off stage.
In true Tyler fashion, he also addressed the haters. “I know you’re seething and angry and ‘agh no one listens to that album.’ These arena tours that are selling out says different,” said Tyler. “If you put that much energy into something maybe everyone would be proud of you too.”
He ended his speech by looking to the future. “We’ll see what the fuck is next. I do not know what the fuck I’ma do. Thank y’all. Big love.”
Well said.
