If you were anywhere near the internet over the weekend, you probably heard about Scarlett Johansson’s latest controversy. You know, the interview where she said she should be able to play “any person, or any tree” she wants. Johansson later gave a follow-up statement saying her comments had been “taken out of context,” but by that point the memes were already in full flow.
Johansson has received criticism in the past for her role in Ghost in the Shell playing a character that was originally Japanese. She received yet more criticism a year later, when the news broke that she’d been cast to play a trans man in the movie Rub & Tug (a project she later backed out of). Read more…
