SAVE $94: Trying to go greener in the kitchen this Earth Day? Amazon and Best Buy have the Vitamix FoodCycler FC-50 on sale for just $305.99 as of April 22. It usually retails for $399.95, so you’ll be saving 23%.
Take it from Mashable’s own Rachel Thompson: Home composting is a huge “win-win activity” on the sustainability front. You’re not just making a nutrient-rich fertilizer that’ll help your plants thrive — you’re also diverting food waste from landfills, where it would’ve generated some of the harmful greenhouse gases that drive climate change. (Here’s a not-so-fun tidbit of trivia: Food waste in the U.S. has a greater carbon footprint than the entire airline industry. It’s a problem, people.)
If you’re green to the whole composting thing (pun intended), rest assured that you don’t need to build a huge outdoor operation or have access to an industrial facility to get started. A gadget like the Vitamix FoodCycler FC-50 makes it possible to turn table scraps into fertilizer right on your countertop, with a carbon filter lid that eliminates funky smells, an ultra-quiet cycle, and a compact design that’s about the size of an air fryer.
21 zero waste kitchen swaps to help you live more sustainably
Just in time for Earth Day (April 22), Amazon and Best Buy both have the FoodCycler marked down to $305.99. That’s 23% off its suggested retail price of $399.95, which works out to a savings of just under $94. (Not its biggest discount ever, but still a really good price considering the Vitamix website is currently selling it for $324.95.)
Featuring a two-liter capacity, the FoodCycler is capable of breaking down all sorts of food waste — everything from your morning coffee grounds to apple cores and leftover chicken bones. It also completes its cycles in just four to eight hours, meaning you can theoretically run it multiple times a day. (For comparison’s sake, standard composting outside won’t produce results for weeks or months.) When it’s time for cleanup, simply pop its waste bucket into the dishwasher — easy peasy.
Note that Best Buy’s deal expires at the end of the day; Amazon’s doesn’t have a set end time, but we’re guessing it’ll follow suit.
