What would the 21st century love song be without Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran? The two are responsible for major wedding songs and the ultimate breakup album. So who better to collaborate on a new love song?
“The Joker and the Queen” has arrived after plenty of teasers, including an October interview with Sheeran where the artist said his upcoming single would feature an “American singer”.
Melodic and lyrical, in classic Swift/Sheeran style, the song tells a story of young, lasting love.
“Me and Taylor first met and wrote + recorded our first song together in 2012, ten years ago now, I’m so so honoured to have her on this song,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram today. The recent winner of the songwriter of the year BRIT Award also revealed that the stars of the new music video were the same kids featured in Swift and Sheeran’s 2012 collab on Red, “Everything Has Changed”. Aw.
Though it’s been 10 years since their first collaboration, it’s certainly not the only time the pair have appeared on each other’s tracks — Sheeran appeared on “End Game” for reputation in 2017. Plus, Sheeran was a special guest on Swift’s 2021 release of Red (Taylor’s Version), re-recording “Everything Has Changed” and hopping on an unreleased track called “Run.” Friends!
