As Stephen Colbert has demonstrated many times before, sometimes a simple parody gets the point across best.

In the firing line today? The Trump administration’s decision to revoke California’s federal waiver on car emissions under the Clean Air Act, which allows the state to set the bar higher than the typical federal standards.

In the clip above, The Late Show uses a parody of a Hot Wheels ad — coughing children included — to make a point about the effect this could have on the environment and the people inhabiting it.

“Your kids will have hours of fun enjoying the toxic tailpipe pollution!” the ad says. “Race ’em! Crash ’em! Contribute to greenhouse gases!” Read more…
