Let’s revisit some of the most interesting predictions:

Testing in 2019

With testing earlier in the development pipeline becoming the norm rather than the exception, development teams will increasingly leverage the cloud in 2019 to control costs and gain the agility to test quickly and at scale. Historically, one of the primary roadblocks preventing organizations from implementing testing earlier in the development pipeline has been the time and cost associated with creating the appropriate infrastructure. As the pressures of the new digital economy turn early pipeline testing from a nice-to-have to a must-have, organizations will seek fast, reliable, and cost-effective solutions, and will turn to the cloud to find them.

Future of software development

The ecosystem of developer tools will continue to expand, even as more vendors pitch all-in-one solutions. We will see developers continue to choose best-of-breed tools, as one toolchain cannot meet all the varying needs of modern software teams. ‘Open’ is here to stay, and the vendors that combine openness and ease of use will thrive.

Kubernetes keeps climbing as the contender to power Cloud 2.0

In 2018, Kubernetes emerged as the defacto cloud orchestration layer after having organized the container chaos across the industry. But we’re still very much in the early days of Kubernetes – and as the software ecosystem around containers grows (i.e. performance, tracing, cloud monitoring) in 2019, Kubernetes will become more than just the orchestration layer. It will become the operating system as we move to Cloud 2.0, the next phase of cloud technology that is intelligent and business-driven — and that uses true multi-cloud strategies.
