British-Pakistani teen Ria Khan has one goal: to be a stuntperson. Well, now it’s two goals: to get her older sister Lena out of her upcoming marriage.
That’s the setup for Polite Society, the feature film directorial debut from We Are Lady Parts creator Nida Manzoor, who also wrote the script. (It was one of our favourite British shows of 2021, so we’re pumped.) Bridgerton‘s Priya Kansara plays Ria alongside with The Umbrella Academy‘s Ritu Arya as Lena, and from the look of the trailer dropped by Focus Features, they look like one kickass sibling team.
As Ria trains in the martial arts, Lena’s engagement to to Salim (Akshay Khanna) seems to come with quite an…intense future mother-in-law. So, Ria enlists the help of her friends and her hectic skills — she’s planning one major heist in the name of sisterhood.
Polite Society is in cinemas April 28, following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday.
