Knowing the basics here is exciting enough: Ava DuVernay has teamed up with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick to tell the story of his life.
This series goes deeper than Kaepernick’s time with the San Francisco 49ers. This first trailer for Netflix’s Colin in Black and White takes us all the way back to his childhood, revealing the experiences that led Kaepernick to focus on society-altering activism, even at the cost of a promising career in football.
Jaden Michael (The Get Down) plays the younger Colin, while Nick Offerman(!) and Mary-Louise Parker(!!) take on the parts of his parents, Rick and Teresa. The trailer also makes it clear that Kaepernick himself plays a role, serving as a narrator who is uniquely positioned to lay out the context for his younger self’s journey.
Wrap it all together with a slick trailer backed by some great music, and we’re left with yet another promising Netflix production.
Colin in Black and White premieres on Netflix on Oct. 29.
