GitLab reaches milestone version 13.0

GitLab 13.0 has been announced on the GitLab blog and Twitter. This milestone release has lots of new features on board for users of the paid and free tiers alike, so let’s take a look.

Gitaly Clusters, Auto DevOps support for AWS & more

GitLab 13.0 comes with support for Gitaly Clusters for highly available Git storage without a Network File System (NFS). This new option to run Gitaly in a clustered configuration is available to users of all self-managed GitLab versions. It should increase fault tolerance, e.g. by automatically routing Git requests to available Gitaly nodes. Gitaly Clusters require Praefect, a new router and transaction manager.

There’s also a new feature for users of all self-managed and GitLab-hosted versions: Auto DevOps now supports deploying to AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS). Previously, this function aimed at reducing complexity and making cloud deployment easier required using Kubernetes.

The GitLab Web IDE has received a new Dark theme. It is automatically enabled for users who have the Dark syntax highlighting theme preference activated. The default syntax highlighting theme is White, and other options are Solarized light, Solarized dark and Monokai. Here’s how the new Dark themed Web IDE looks:
