Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings had its world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, finally inducting the titular hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after repeated pandemic-induced delays. If the first reactions are anything to go by, it was well worth the wait.
Set after 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the movie follows martial artist Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) as he confronts his past and complicated familial relationships — and kicks a ton of butt along the way. The first Marvel superhero film with an Asian lead, Shang-Chi has been highly anticipated since development was initially announced at the end of 2018.
First reactions to Shang-Chi are rolling in now, and it appears to have earned gushing, universal praise across the board. The overwhelming consensus is that Shang-Chi is a “phenomenal” film filled with heart, humour, and “jaw dropping action” — and not just by Marvel’s standards.
It sounds exactly like the fun, action-packed blockbuster we could all use right now. If you weren’t already hyped for Shang-Chi, now would be a good time to start.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to hit cinemas Sept. 3 — which, judging from these reactions, is probably where you’ll want to see it.
