DevOps in 2020 – our big DevOps survey

The term DevOps still has no clear definition, which is quite impressive considering it was first mentioned about 11 years ago. But even though there is no clear definition, many people – and that’s what DevOps is all about – have an idea what DevOps really is.

Some would say that DevOps is clearly about using the right tools. And DevOps is really a question of the right tools. This may sound like blasphemy to some, but it’s hard to deny that tools play a major role in the DevOps context. But is that really what DevOps is all about? Obviously not. The use of certain tools does not a “DevOps team” make—this is where the human factor comes into play. Sometimes people need the right tools for a task, but unfortunately – sorry, IT managers – you can’t just order a serving of DevOps to go.

So it’s also largely a question of how developers (Devs) and operators (Ops) work. No continuous delivery pipeline, no container or monitoring tool, no cloud or serverless platform can give a team or even an entire company the title “DevOps”. The mindset and the right corporate culture are essential when it comes to the successful implementation and execution of DevOps.

Rethink IT – our big DevOps survey

We would like to know how your company, dear readers, is doing with the transformation to DevOps. To this end, we have created our major DevOps survey with the help of expert Sandra Parsick. It contains questions about everything that is interesting in the DevOps context, from tooling to corporate culture to deployment times. Take five minutes to participate in our survey, it could even pay off!

We are giving away three copies of the book The Unicorn Project – A Novel about Developers, Digital Disruption, and Thriving in the Age of Data by Gene Kim. To take part in the raffle, simply enter your email address at the end of the survey and your name will be entered into the draw. Participation is from 18 years of age, legal recourse is excluded and, of course, the prize cannot be exchanged or transferred.

The survey only takes a few minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for taking the time to give us some very valuable feedback!
