Many Democrats believe Donald Trump is one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. The commander-in-chief’s predecessors now seem downright dignified in comparison, irrespective of how popular they were while actually in office. However, as Late Night host Seth Meyers points out, Trump’s terribleness doesn’t absolve America’s past leaders of their transgressions, and we would do well to remember that.
“George W. Bush is not your friend,” said Meyers on Tuesday. “He’s still the guy who used fabricated evidence to drag us into an intractable war.”
Meyers was responding to a video Bush released calling for unity amidst the coronavirus crisis. This prompted some Democrats to recall Bush’s presidency with something resembling fond nostalgia, despite Bush having delivered “the Iraq War, torture, the financial collapse, the Katrina disaster, and, of course, Ponchogate.” Read more…
