A Mother’s Day ‘SNL’ sketch hilariously riffs on your mom’s love of word signs

It was barely more than a year ago when we saw a Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Aidy Bryant as a middle-aged birthday girl who receives a series of gift signs emblazoned with message mired in brutal honesty and backhanded compliments. It was a good joke. It works even better as a Mother’s Day gag.

Bryant is at the helm again, steering an increasingly unhinged sketch in which her husband (Benedict Cumberbatch) and adult children (Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, Andrew Dismukes) fork over signs that paint the picture of a hard-drinking, sexless, and physically rundown mom who drove her kids to therapy. Happy Mother’s Day?
