Sunday 23rd December

Our event of the day is the NFL fixture between the Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs at CenturyLink Field. The Seahawks are a win away from the playoffs and as they have done all season, will fight for every point to ensure they make it back to the postseason. Whereas the Chiefs are already in the playoffs and are one of the favourites to go deep in the postseason. You will not want to miss this matchup between two teams with serious ambitions for the season. With two games left in the 2018 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks are desperate for that one win which will secure postseason football. With a win against either the Chiefs or the Cardinals, the Seahawks will erase the unpleasant memory of the 9-7 2017 season, which saw the Seahawks miss the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Seattle has fought for every point in every game this season – each of their fourteen games, win or lose, have been determined by an average of 9 points. Nobody embodies Seattle’s scrappy, hard-fought season more than breakout running back Chris Carson. Carson was picked fifth from last in the 2017 draft and had a strong start to his rookie season before breaking his ankle in week 4.

However, he came back strong in the 2018 season and has excelled as a running back that couldn’t be stopped. He might not have been the fastest or most agile running back but his tenacity has set him apart. This was best exemplified in their most recent game, a 26-23 loss to the 49ers. On a 4th and Goal, Carson was handed the ball and ran right into the 49ers line. The play seemed dead before Carson burst out of the mass of bodies at the line of scrimmage and fell into the endzone dragging three defenders with him. He has 913 rushing yards through the first 14 games and is set to break 1000 by the end of the season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the NFL. They are 11-3 and quarterback Patrick Mahomes needs two touchdowns to post the fifth best touchdown passing season in NFL history. Few teams have been able stop Kansas City, who boast a potent offense, competent at both running and passing the ball. However, the Chiefs have slowed in recent weeks, arguably struggling against the 2-9 Raiders; winning in overtime to the Ravens and losing a close game to the Chargers. However, they have secured a playoff berth and have a serious chance of making it to the Super Bowl. The Seahawks, despite their extensive injury list, will welcome the Chiefs to CenturyLink Field with all cylinders firing so expect an exciting game tonight.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Premier League, where Everton host Tottenham at Goodison Park. Everton are 8th in the league but have struggled recently, recording two draws and two losses in their last four games. Meanwhile Spurs, who are 3rd, are unbeaten in their last five games, winning three league matches, beating Arsenal in the Caraboa Cup and holding Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League. Everton will look to change their luck, while Spurs will hope to keep the pressure on 2nd placed Manchester City. You won’t want to miss this match. Elsewhere, in the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Chesapeake Energy Arena. In the NHL, the San Jose Sharks host the Arizona Coyotes at the SAP Center. The World Darts Championship continues at Alexandra Palace. In the Women’s Big Bash League, the Melbourne Renegades visit the Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
