All West Ham Aren’t We? EPL Final Match Day

Manchester vs London, North vs South, a clash you’d assume would create a regional divide. Not this time around. Wherever you are from, hold hands, link arms, and join in harmony and agreement. We’ve had enough of Manchester City.

Individual dominance is a characteristic of sport we’re all too familiar with. Similar frustration around Red Bull’s current F1 success circulates outside of the EPL. Don’t get me wrong, the domestic dominance achieved by Manchester City is hugely impressive, though as fans we crave fresh material. New characters, a different coloured kit and more Spurs pain are how we want this season to conclude.

Do it for Rice, give it some Beans

Round 38 of 38. The final game of the season sees Manchester City lift the EPL trophy if they beat West Ham, a draw with a favoured goal difference also secures the title. With this in mind, Arsenal’s stitched wounds from last season are about to be reopened.

Positively ahead on a +1 Goal Difference, Arsenal sits on 86 points, 2 behind City’s tally of 88. The Gunners are here through convincing football the majority of the year, with a slight dip in form towards the back end. Mimicking last season, Arsenal are familiar with the term “marathon, not a sprint”. Again, they may not finish as strongly as they started.

Alas, there is always hope, and what better hope in the picture of a 61-year-old Scotsman? The last line of defence before storming the castle is David Moyes.

Moyesy has had a fairly successful managerial career. Despite the Manchester United days of “give it Giggsy til the end of the season”, and a poor Sunderland spell he’s had a respectable run. The Post-Fergie United job is cursed anyhow, he didn’t stand a chance.

Not to mention, this is David’s final game in charge of The Hammers, potentially leaving the EPL for good. Additionally, West Ham is the former club of Arsenal midfield star Declan Rice, who brought European Silverware to the Club in 2023. For most fans, watching their club lift a trophy is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Moyesy’s men therefore have more of a reason to put up a fight for their old mate. Declan Rice was loyal to West Ham and arguably spent too long there, something which the Club won’t forget.

Scouse down South

In the dream scenario where West Ham manages to get a result against City, it’s crucial to remember that Arsenal still needs to win. However, they face a tough challenge at home against Everton. As per their previous 5 games, Everton have taken home a staggering 13/15 points. This stretch included hammering the nail in Jürgen’s coffin. Giant slayers Everton bounced rivals Liverpool out of Premier League title contention, and their last chance of taking home a trophy this season. (Insert Klopp tears here)

In the same fashion as they destroyed Liverpool’s season, Everton may well do the same to Arsenal. Despite the outcomes, the final match day of the English Premier League always gives us a magical feeling. Every year, all 20 teams kicking off 10 games simultaneously leaves us with one thought: Why don’t I have more TVs?
