The American Library Association (ALA) selected A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon by Kevin Fedarko as the winner of Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Nonfiction. The other 2025 nonfiction finalists were Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space by Adam Higginbotham and Cue the Sun! The Invention of Reality TV by Emily Nussbaum.

The Finalists for The National Book Critics Circle Awards Announced
With four nonfiction categories—Nonfiction, Biography, Autobiography, and Criticism—there are plenty of nonfiction finalists for the National Book Critics Circle Award for you to dig your teeth into. Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space by Adam Higginbotham is one of the finalists for nonfiction. We’ve seen this title on PLENTY of “best of” and literary award lists. Other standouts include Edwidge Danticat’s We’re Alone in nonfiction and There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension by Hanif Abdurraqib in criticism.
