5 Beach Floats For Your Beach Reads

Share

With the arrival of beach season comes the sweet goodness of summer reads and the beach floats on which we read them. Here is a list of fantastic floatables for your reading pleasures:

Avocado Float

Holy guacamole, ya’ll (yes, I said it). Bask in the sun on this avocado float to soak up some tasty cookbooks or food-related literature. Might I recommend Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat? Remember, avocados are a source of naturally good fat. Please note that the seed on this float becomes a beach ball. Take my money, Amazon.

Giant Winged Unicorn Float

Looking for an epic float for an epic read? Looks like Walmart has you covered. Since this 9-feet-tall float is almost $250, you’re going to need a book equally as epic and gigantic to get the full experience. How about The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon? It’s epic in both size and scope. It has it all: dragons, magic, romance, the works! Perfect for your floating unicorn island.

Boat Float

Don’t have a boat, but want to float like you’re on a boat? How about a boat beach float? This isn’t a Dr. Seuss rhyme, it’s an actual float. You can fit six people on it and have a reading party worthy of the high seas. And if we’re talking epic adventures on seaworthy-looking craft, then The Farthest Shore by Ursula K. Le Guin or Life of Pi by Yann Martel would make excellent reading companions.

Stomach-Reader Float

Also known as a beach float for your boobs. Because thank you, Universe. This is also perfect for anyone who likes to read on their stomach. Lounge away in perfect, aerodynamic comfort. Sprawl like you own it. And since I am a stomach reader, I think some of my current reading obsessions—Women Talking by Miriam Toews and Miranda in Milan by Katherine Duckett—would be perfect for this genius invention.

Pizza Float

One cannot have summer (or let’s be real, any season) without pizza. Therefore, one must have a pizza float. When I was in middle school, my mom would make homemade pizza every Friday night. It’s a family thing. It’s a friend thing. It’s an everything thing! So grab a slice of pizza, hop on this slice of fun, and read books about friends and family in all their complicated glory, such as Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi or My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.
