What are the websites, web services, and software applications you use regularly and can’t imagine doing without? I call these my “favorite digital utilities,” and today I created a specific webpage for them on my curriculum / lesson sharing website which is built with Google Sites.
As an example, I used the website Flickr to upload the image I’ve embedded (above) in this post, and I used ImageCodr to quickly format the citation for this Creative Commons licensed image.

AI Tools
- ChatGPT – I pay a subscription fee
- Claude.ai – I pay a subscription fee
- Ideogram.ai (generative AI visualization) – I pay a subscription fee
- Upscale.media (increase image resolution)
Other Websites
- Text Prepper (chunk / thread longer social media posts)
- Flickr (photo sharing)
- ImageCodr (format image CC license attribution)
- The Noun Project (get icons to use in image collages) – I pay a subscription fee
- ColorZilla (copy exact HTML colors from an image / webpage)
- Adobe Express for iOS (create InfoPics)
- Google Sites (update webpages like this one)
- Zbib (quick citation formatting)
Software Programs
- Skitch (screenshot annotation, still downloadable but officially discontinued)
- Handbrake (open source video transcoder)
- XSplit Vcam (use iPhone as webcam)
- BBEdit (text editor, grep search/replace)
- Paprika Recipe Manager 3 (paid app, but no subscription required)
This week I also created a separate webpage to share the paid subscriptions my wife and I have and maintain. This is shared on my “presentation handouts wiki / website,” along with the podcast subscriptions I have currently.
It can be SO valuable to “serve as filters for each other,” sharing things like:
- Favorite Digital Utilities
- Favorite Paid Subscription Services
- Favorite Podcasts
At some point I also need to create a similar list for my “favorite books” and “favorite YouTube videos.” Many of the videos that would go in that list are somewhere on my LONG webpage for class “Wonder Links.” Many of the books that would make the list are in blog posts here I’ve shared under the category “books.”
