50 Cent was hacked by people shilling a memecoin, and the scheme apparently worked.

50 Cent said on Saturday that his X/Twitter account and website, ThisIs50, were hacked and that the hacker promoted a cryptocurrency called $GUNIT, you know, like G-Unit, the rapper’s onetime group.

According to 50 Cent himself, the hack was quite successful.

He wrote on Instagram: “My Twitter & Thisis 50.com was hacked I have no association with this Crypto. Twitter worked quickly to lock my account back down. Who ever did this made $3,000,000 in 30 minutes.”

There’s no way to verify the figures provided by 50 Cent. Cryptocurrencies do provide the opportunity for scammers to pump value and make a quick buck.

This is, after all, not an uncommon scam. Some hacker takes over a prominent account and pumps the value of some cryptocurrency via posts. It seemed to happen to Hulk Hogan this month. It’s made all the more confusing because some celebs, like rapper Iggy Azalea or Caitlyn Jenner have actually launched volatile coins.

50 Cent has been active in the crypto space in the past, reportedly owning millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin, so it would add up that folks would fall for the memecoin.

Be careful out there on the internet and don’t go around buying every random cryptocurrency.
