From zero to Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery – Nir Koren
Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) are development practice of applying small code changes frequently. It’s well known that it becomes more and more essential to any agile-based organization.
This workshop will help you to understand the CI/CD concepts, mindset, and how to implement the practices that help to form the DevOps culture to implement CI/CD for software development.
Kubernetes production debugging – Andrew Martin
Debug broken Kubernetes clusters and application failures as you compete to resolve the production outage first! This entertaining and frenetic workshop is designed to provide the kind of experience you only get when production goes down.
In this workshop, you will be presented with various broken Kubernetes cluster scenarios as well as application failure scenarios. You will be split into teams of varying levels of experience and compete over who can resolve the production outage the fastest.
This workshop emphasizes collaboration and communication, which are key to getting through any outage as a team. Previous experience with Kubernetes is required.
How to master your offensive security – Christian Schnieder
In this hands-on penetration testing workshop, we’ll attack the training web app to take on the role of a pen tester one step at a time. You’ll learn how to work with professional security tools through a range of practical tasks. You’ll also learn pen testers’ general approach for attacking web apps. Of course, we’ll also deal with defensive measures for protecting the security holes found. However, our focus will remain on the systematic use of professional hacking tools for carrying out security analyses.
As a second objective of this workshop, you will learn what type of security checks can be automated and how this DevOps-style automation of security checks within build chains is best done.
Once you’ve completed this workshop, you’ll have practical experience of carrying out manual and automated attacks on web apps. You can transfer these skills to your own software development work and increase the security of your projects in the long-term.

Boost your AWS infrastructure – Philipp Garbe
Infrastructure as Code has been adopted by many teams in the last years. It makes provisioning of your infrastructure easy and helps to keep your environments consistent. But by using declarative templates, we still miss many practices that we are used for “normal” code. You’ve probably already felt the pain that each CloudFormation template is just a copy & paste of your last projects or from StackOverflow. Can you trust these snippets? How can you align improvements or even security fixes through your codebase? How can you share best practices within your company?
This talk gives an introduction to the new AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), an imperative way to write CloudFormation templates in the language of your choice (even in Java). Philipp also explains why CDK is such a game changer and how your teams can spend less time writing CloudFormation templates while improving their code quality.
DevOps culture: The neuroscience of behavior – Helen Beal
We acknowledge that we can’t change culture, but we can change behavior. Culture is the sum of values and behavior. But what makes humans behave the way we do and how can we influence behavior and model it the way we want to?
In this talk, hobbyist neuroscientist Helen Beal will apply what she’s observed through driving and coaching countless DevOps evolutions to what she’s learned about neuroscience. She’ll provide practical tips to create a high trust, empowered culture where value outcomes can be delivered at pace with resilience.
Scaling engineering by hacking Conway’s Law – Aviran Mordo
Working in a fast-growing company that doubles in size every year, maintaining the quality of products and engineers is a very challenging task.
In this talk, I will describe how Wix’s corporate structure evolved from functional teams to gangs, cross-functional teams responsible for end-to-end delivery; guilds, professional groups responsible for methodology, best practices, and training; and mini-companies that serve as internal startups to support rapid growth while maintaining velocity. I will also discuss how we poured our culture into a game-like “guild day”, that helps us maintain alignment, keep the high quality of our work and people, share knowledge, recruit and preserve the best developers, and support a quality-based culture of innovation.
Rethinking the architecture & design of your Continuous Delivery pipelines – Ambreen Sheik
In many organizations, the architecture of continuous delivery pipelines has become excessively complicated and more convoluted by the day. If managed improperly, the continuous delivery flow of a product ends up being more complicated and resource intensive than the product itself. This talk is intended to motivate teams to take a moment and reflect on their Continuous Delivery/Deployment pipeline architecture with the sole purpose of evaluating their design and determining the steps that can be taken to improve it.
In this session, I will highlight the different reasons that may contribute to the excessive complexity of continuous delivery pipeline architecture. I’ll also talk about policies and procedures to keep the architecture simple and manageable in the long run to avoid nth-degree effects that may result in catastrophic failure.The talk will also look into the various non-technical aspects of an organization that affects the eventual design of the delivery pipeline flow.
