Amazon announces a *free* distribution of OpenJDK with LTS
After re-affirming long-term support for Java in Amazon Linux a couple of weeks ago, Amazon announced at Devoxx Belgium the preview of Amazon Corretto, a free distribution of OpenJDK that offers LTS.
Corretto is multiplatform and production ready, and as already mentioned, it comes with long-term support that will include performance enhancements and security fixes, not to mention that it has big plans that include becoming the default OpenJDK on Amazon Linux 2 in 2019! Check out the news here.
JDK 12 patrol
The tech world is moving fast and we’re in for the ride! The JDK 12 development repositories are open and we thought it’s time to start a new thread in order to keep track of everything that’s going live.

Now’s the time to get involved with JDK 8u
“OpenJDK is the future of Java,” Rich Sharples told us last week. So if this is the case (and we think it is!), you should get involved with OpenJDK as soon as possible. And if you’re interested in the continuation of JDK 8 after Oracle relinquishes their leadership, now’s the time to have a say in the development of JDK 8u.
As you surely already know, public updates for Java 8 will remain available for individual, personal use through at least the end of 2020 but business users won’t be that lucky — the ‘public updates’ tap will be turned off in January 2019. That said, it’s time to start thinking about the future.

ThoughtWorks Technology Radar
The latest edition of ThoughtWorks’ Technology Radar has highlighted what a lot of commentators already know: Istio and Knative are worth exploring but so are WebAssembly and Flutter. What’s even more interesting is that there are no languages, tools or platforms on the ‘adopt’ list so it’s safe to say that no one is missing out on anything.
